Child / Adolescent Therapy

Early childhood and Adolescence is a time of significant change and maturation. Child/Adolescent Therapy can be a helpful resource during this difficult stage as it is a delicate balance of challenge and promise. Today’s unique social pressures and school demands on adolescents can lead toward isolation and decreased communication with parents. These circumstances can lead to mood changes, increased anxiety, and the onset of risky behaviors.

Children may become overwhelmed in their day-to-day lives, they often feel like no one understands them and they are not comfortable talking with anyone (except friends at times). They may not know how to create a balance between managing friends, parents, school and extracurriculars. Child/Adolescent Therapy focuses on their ability to find a comfortable stance between their own independence and their ongoing reliance on the adults in their lives. Child/Adolescent Therapy also helps teens to explore different and at times difficult areas of their lives: sexuality, identity, relationships, in a safe and validating environment. Adolescent therapy provides an opportunity to explore these areas and come to a better understanding as to how to navigate them.

Through a variety of individualized therapeutic approaches including CBT and/or DBT, art therapy and expressive therapy, problem solving strategies and a solution focused approached, the therapist can help adolescent clients integrate healthier coping strategies into their lives; thus, helping them to build a life that is meaningful, fulfilling and worth living.
